Saravanan Chockalingam is a self-taught contemporary figurative and expressionist painter and photographer from India. Born in Tamil Nadu near Madurai—one of the country's most ancient temple cities—his artistic language is deeply informed by the region's sculptural and cultural legacy.

Growing up amidst temples adorned with finely carved stone figures, Saravanan developed an early sensitivity to form, proportion, and emotional articulation.

His practice has evolved into a distinctive painterly approach characterized by expressive brushwork, layered textures, and nuanced color harmonies, echoing the spirit of Impressionism while remaining firmly contemporary.
